Vicki Longhofer
Artist/Consultant
Artist's Statement: "Art is a rich source for exploring diversity. Familiarity with the arts of different cultures not only brings delight; it helps us to share a common bond of understanding and friendship. Art then becomes an avenue to respect, tolerance and peace. My goal is to use that wonderful transformative potential in my work."
Offerings
Art Projects by Design: Vicky designs mixed media collages for small-to-large group collaborations. She created Diversity: The Shape of the World with 100 students from age 4 to 14! This three-dimensional piece was featured in Teaching Tolerance magazine, and is shown on our Respect Diversity Symbol Campaign page.
Residencies/Workshops: Residencies or workshops may be customized to specific needs. Vicki works as a visiting artist/instructor in the classroom, and conducts teacher training. Her Life In Art curriculum combines awareness of our visual arts heritage with hands-on creativity. A list of lesson topics and art projects is available.
Labyrinth Workshops/Retreats: Using a painted canvas replica of a pattern from the floor of a medieval cathedral, Vicki facilitates group labryrinth walks. This circuitous route becomes an inward contemplative journey. For many, it opens a door to creative expression! Journaling and art are often integrated with this experience. Vicki has received training for this special work through Veriditas, the Worldwide Labyrinth Project at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral. For in-depth study, she participated in a pilgrimage week at Chartres, France- site of labyrinth in the 12th century Chartres Cathedral. From her personal and collaborative experiences with the labyrinth, Vicky sees it as a tool for fostering peace.
