James Ray Dixon
Diversity Art Teacher
Background
A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mr. Dixon served in the U.S. Air-Force for four years. Shortly after receiving his bachelor's degree in art from the University of Central Oklahoma, he began his teaching career with the Oklahoma City schools where he has worked for over two decades. Dixon has taught English as a second language, language arts and art from kindergarten through the eighth grade.
Ray produced a multi-cultural video in collaboration with Region VII Comprehensive Center at O.U. His art students won the poster of the year for the Smoke Out Banner in 1997. This year he won the honor of Multicultural Teacher of the Year at the Multicultural Conference at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Main Focus
Celebrating diversity through the arts is Ray's main focus. From African masks to ethnic collages, he teaches respect for cultures throughout the world.
Offerings
Annually Dixon offers a special summer class in various media, including pottery, which is for middle school students, the surrounding community members, and residents of the city at large. Ray offers hands-on diversity art teacher workshops.
Availability
Ray teaches art workshops to all ages throughout the greater Oklahoma City area.
