If only I could … lend my ears so you could hear music,

And the sound of your Mom and Dad’s voice.

Special words like “I love you … and the noise of your toys.

Friends whispering childhood secrets … “that only children can know!”

And the choices you have for lunch … do you want tray “A” or tray “B?”

I wish they could hear the sound of my teacher’s voice,

Bedtime stories and animal sounds I hear at the zoo.

If only I could .. I’d let you borrow my ears so you could hear, too.

If only I could … lend you my eyes for just a while,

To see the face of a puppy … my teacher’s smile,

And all of the faces of the people you love!

To watch TV … see the words in a book,

And all the choices of things before you!

To play video games … and see the score if you win!

See the lights on the tree and the presents for your family!

Watch the leaves blowing on the trees,

The pretty flowers and all their colors,

The bees and butterflies and the scratch on my knee!

And the shiny money the tooth fairy left for me!

If only I could … I’d let you borrow my eyes … for just a short while.

If only I could … lend you my legs for today

So you could play soccer, do splits and ballet.

Run up the stairs and then slide down!

Make snow angels, jump rope,

And run into the wind.

The parachute pulling against your skin!

Let your toes get wet when you run through a puddle.

Wrap them up warm after playing in snow.

Ride my bike, do a cartwheel, ride a skateboard at night.

Run and slide and skip and jump.

All the things on the playground you just know by sight.

And finally to snuggle up with your Mom at night.

Legs wrapped around her, oh so tight.

If only I could … I’d share my legs … from morning til night.

If only I could…. But sadly I can’t,

Share the parts of my body to make yours work right.

It’s not that you’re broke … God made you just right!

He doesn’t make mistakes like the rest of us might.

He wants us to see past the color and shape

To the heart of the matter that makes us a delight.

I can’t give you my eyes, my legs or my ears,

But I will take time to know you, the you that you are!

I will see with my heart, I will listen with my eyes,

Because I choose to love you just as you are!
