Artist-Coach
Background
B.J. known to many as Aunt B.J., is the co-founder of the Dolphins Special Olympic Team. To fill a void for children who have special needs, B.J. worked side-by-side with Linda Arnold to create the non-profit, tax-exempt foundation that is now known as the Dolphins. By inviting non-special needs teens and others to participate in the coaching and camaraderie of the dolphins, B.J. teaches an understanding of those with special needs.
B.J. also teaches art classes with children of all ability levels. She organizes golf meets, bowling tournaments, even bocci games, reminding each of us that, inside, we're all the same. With love and persistence she helps lead the Dolphins to victory, watching the swimmers bring home more and more gold, silver and bronze metals each year. But more important, she sees the smiles and the hugs from this lucky, loving team.
Not only does B.J.'s work enhance the lives of all involved, it promotes an understanding of those with special needs throughout the community.
