Gwendolyn Hooks is surrounded by children. She is the mother of three, a junior high mathematics teacher, and a children’s book author. Hooks is passionate about children and their comfort with the world.

Hooks strives to create books that all children can relate to. She believes that every child should be able to pick up a book and see themselves.
Offerings
Hooks speaks to adult groups as well as student groups of all ages. She leads workshops showing others how to respect diversity in their everyday life.

PK-1st Grade: You Can Make A Book!
This program is based on my book Can I Have A Pet?. Using a cut and fold technique, each child makes their own pet book.
1-2 Grades: Whose Shoe Is It Anyway?
Even in adventure stories, it’s the characters that we remember long after the story ends. This program uses various types of shoes to help students bring out character traits.
3-4Grades:Popcorn and Poems
We explore the world of poetry and I lead the students in writing their own poems.
5th Grade and Older: A Story in Three Parts
I discuss the three parts of a story: beginning, middle, and end. The students will have a chance to write their own stories and learn how to make them sparkle.
Adults: Transforming You—Transforming Others: Using Literature to Understand Our World
This program focuses on respecting ourselves and others and includes a reading list.
Workshops can be tailored to meet specific age levels and other requirements.
