Background

Dr. Robin Gurwitch, an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist.  She received her doctorate in Clinical/Medical Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She completed her internship in Pediatric Psychology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and a fellowship in Child Psychology at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Main Focus

Dr.Gurwitch specializes in work with children, particularly those considered at-risk.  Since the bombing in Oklahoma City in 1995, Dr. Gurwitch has devoted much time to understanding the impact of trauma and disaster on children. She has served on State and national committees and task forces focusing on trauma/disaster, terrorism, and violence.

Publications

Dr. Gurwitch has co-authored a treatment manual for use with young children after a trauma and helped the American Red Cross develop materials related to terrorism for use in schools.  She has written book chapters and scientific journal articles on the topics of the Oklahoma City bombing, children and trauma/disaster and terrorism.

Offerings

Since the events of September 11, 2001, and their aftermath, Dr. Gurwitch has been providing training and consultation services on the impact of terrorism on children to agencies, schools, and organizations across the country.

Dr. Gurwitch has presented papers on the issues of trauma, at state, national, and international levels, to teachers and administrators throughout the country.
