Adult Workshop Topics

The Four Directions of Peacemaking A team building workshop

When working as a team (faculty on campus, committees, etc.) each member must learn to recognize and honor the strengths of others. In this workshop you will learn to appreciate individual differences based on the Native American view of the wheel of life (also called the medicine wheel). In this culture each person is born into one of four directions on the compass; north, south, east and west, each having negative and positive characteristics. Moving through life presents the opportunity to move around the wheel, adopting traits from the other quadrants. Group assignments during the workshop illustrate the positive benefits gained when team members respect and utilize each other’s strengths. A very experiential, hands-on workshop.

Format: 3 hour workshop, can be divided into two 1 1/2 hour classes.

Basic Conflict Resolution Training for Staff Development

A 6 hour basic conflict resolution training which is highly interactive, hands-on and introspective. Through role plays, activities and discussion, participants use their experiences and the resolution skills they have already developed to examine the causes of conflict and what methods are used as adults to handle differences. Conflict resolution theory and philosophy are explored and a Peer Mediation overview is presented upon request.

Format: 6 hours.

The Spiritual Dynamics of Conflict Resolution

Conflict in life is inevitable. Using participant’s experiences of conflict as role plays we will examine the lessons to be learned when faced with challenging situations and how our responses can add to our spiritual growth. We will explore getting to the heart of conflict to resolution where healing can take place. You will be challenged to look beyond management or settlement in the materialistic sense to understand the hurt feelings involved. The goal to move towards reconciliation and wholeness requires a heartfelt approach that affirms human dignity.

Format: 3 to 6 hours.
