Pat Webb
Creative Writer, Educator

Background
Patricia Webb began writing poetry in 1979 as a way of dealing with the culture shock of being in an aboriginal village in the outback of Australia.  She has been an Artist-in Residence in Oklahoma for the past twelve years.  In 1997 Pat sold her house and entered into a period of silence to re-design her life.   She is co-founder of The Silence Foundation, devoted to research, writing, and sponsoring workshops on the benefits of silence in contemporary society.

Pat's poetry has been published in the United States and Australia.  She has facilitated over a hundred Silence Workshops in Oklahoma, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, and Georgia.

The Silence Workshop: This program allows people to explore the creative use of Silence for healing and transformation.   Art, writing and reflection help each one contact the Wise One Within (WOW!)  This workshop has been given in school and hospital settings and in small groups, including non-profit agencies.

Mindfulness Workshop:  This one-day program uses meditation, trainings in mindfulness, and art creation to develop personal disciplines for everyday living.

Teacher Mentoring Program called "Circle Up":   This course gives teachers practical tools to support community-building in their classrooms. The focus is on using sharing circles, creative writing, art, and handmade gifting books.

Legacy Project:  This program fosters respect between the generations by developing skills in listening to and crafting life stories.  Legacy Projects have been held in Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, and Chicago. A favorite Oklahoma project was The McGuffy Reader, which featured interviews with elders who attended one-room schoolhouses.

Main Focus Pat teaches respect for diversity by encouraging people to go within and mine the rich resources of their personal history, dreams, and aspirations for the future.   She believes in each person's right to discover their own natural genius in art and words.  Her unusual methods release insights in varied forms, such as poetry, stories, and visual art. Her silence exercises, quiet rooms and labyrinth walks help people uncover their own wisdom, perspective, and creativity.

Pat especially enjoys working with people who have health challenges and career or personal transitions.  She is a consultant with the Oklahoma City Jets program for at-risk children, with Casey Family Services, with INTEGRIS, and with many Oklahoma alternative schools.
